5 day itinerary in Lysekil

Summer is here, and what could be better than spending five days in the picturesque west coast town of Lysekil? With its proximity to the sea, charming marinas and activities for both children and adults, Lysekil is the perfect place for a relaxing yet active holiday. Here we offer an inspiring itinerary for a family of two adults and two children (7 and 11 years old), with a focus on relaxation, good food and just the right amount of adventure. The trip starts from Malmö, Stockholm or Oslo, and we get there by bus – an affordable and convenient way to travel.



Day 1: Arrival in Lysekil – Check-in and Seafood Dinner

The trip begins early in the morning from your chosen departure location with Bus4You or Flixbus. After a long journey, it's time to relax. Start the evening with a delicious seafood dinner at NH5, a restaurant known for its fresh ingredients and its location right on the water. Here, children can enjoy simple dishes while adults get to taste Lysekil's specialty – freshly cooked shrimp and lobster.


Day 2: Havets Hus and Beach Life at Pinneviken

After a nice breakfast at the hotel, it's time for today's adventure. The first stop is The House of the Sea, a marine aquarium that takes you on a journey beneath the surface of the North Sea. Kids will love seeing sharks, starfish and other exciting sea creatures, and there's also an interactive touch pool where you can get up close to some of the inhabitants.

After an inspiring morning, it's time to head to Pinneviken, one of Lysekil's finest swimming spots. Here the family can relax, swim and enjoy the beautiful view of the sea. Pack a picnic basket from the local bakery Fiskebäckskils Bread, and let the kids play in the sand while you enjoy the sun.

The evening ends with dinner at Restaurant North Harbour 5, where you can enjoy both local fish dishes and good options for the children.


Day 3: Boat trip to Skaftö and walk in Fiskebäckskil

The day begins with a short boat ride to the island Skaftö, which is located right next to Lysekil. Charming small villages such as Fiskebäckskil and Grundsund await you here. Start the day with a walk along the picturesque alleys of Fiskebäckskil and discover the unique architecture with beautiful wooden houses and flourishing gardens.

In the afternoon you can take a short walk along The coastal path, a family-friendly hiking trail that offers fantastic views of the archipelago. It's also a great place to take nice family photos as a memento of your trip.

Back in Lysekil, the day ends with dinner at The Barge Restaurant, a floating restaurant serving everything from pizza to fish stew – perfect for families with varied tastes.


Day 4: Kayaking and Adventure on Nordens Ark

For the more adventurous family, it's time to try out kayakingIn the morning you rent kayaks from Outdoor West and paddle along the calm coast. Kayaking is a fun way to experience the archipelago, and younger children can go along in a double kayak with an adult.

After lunch you will take a short car or bus ride to Ark of the Nordics, a park that works to preserve endangered animal species. Here you will have the chance to see animals such as snow leopards, lynxes and red pandas. It is an educational and exciting experience for both young and old.


Day 5: Walk in Stångehuvud Nature Reserve and Departure

On the last day of the trip, it's time for a leisurely morning walk in Stångehuvud Nature Reserve, known for its unique granite cliffs and stunning views of the sea. Let the kids climb the rocks while you enjoy the fresh sea air and take in the relaxed atmosphere.

Before you leave Lysekil, take the opportunity to have lunch at Café Kungsgatan, a charming café serving homemade food and pastries.

After lunch, it's time to begin the journey home. On the bus back, you can reflect on the wonderful days and maybe even start planning your next visit to the west coast.
