Bathing spots along the Bohuslän coast

I love swimming in the sea and exploring different beaches and cliffs along the west coast. In this post, I thought I would tell you about some of my favorite swimming spots in Gothenburg and other municipalities in Bohuslän, what they are called and what facilities are there. Hope you will be inspired to take a dip!

In this post, I thought I would tell you about some of my favorite swimming spots in Gothenburg and other municipalities in Bohuslän, what they are called and what facilities are there. Hope you will be inspired to take a dip!

Gothenburg's bathing spots

Gothenburg is a city that has a lot to offer for those who like to swim. Here there are both long sandy beaches, cozy bathing coves and exciting rock baths. Some of the most popular swimming spots in Gothenburg are:

  • Askimsbadet: This is one of Gothenburg's largest and most well-visited bathing spots. There is a long sandy beach, grassy areas, playground, kiosk, toilets, showers, changing rooms and lifeguards. It is also possible to rent a kayak or SUP board. Askimsbadet is located in Askim, about 10 km from central Gothenburg.

  • Salt Island: Saltholmen is a bathing spot with rocks and piers located by the ferry port to the southern archipelago. Here you can enjoy the view of the sea and the islands, or take a boat trip to one of the many bathing-friendly islands such as Vrångö, Styrsö or Brännö. Saltholmen has a kiosk, toilets, showers and changing rooms. Saltholmen is located in Långedrag, approximately 12 km from central Gothenburg.

  • Delsjöbadet: Delsjöbadet is a bathing place at Lake Stora Delsjön in the Delsjö area. Here there is a sandy beach, jetties, jumping tower, barbecue areas, kiosk, toilets and changing rooms. Delsjöbadet is a popular excursion destination for families who want to swim in fresh water and enjoy nature. Delsjöbadet is located in Örgryte-Härlanda, about 6 km from central Gothenburg.

Bathing spots Bohuslän

Bohuslän is a landscape known for its beautiful archipelago and fantastic bathing spots. There is something here for all tastes, regardless of whether you prefer sandy beaches, cliffs or lakes. Some of the most popular bathing spots in Bohuslän are:

  • Smögen: Smögen is one of Bohuslän's most famous tourist resorts and has several nice bathing spots to choose from. One of them is Vallevik, which has a long sandy beach with jetties, jumping tower, kiosk and toilets. Another is Hasselösund, which has cliffs, piers and toilets. Smögen also has a sea bath with pools, sauna and restaurant. Smögen is located in Sotenäs municipality, approximately 130 km from Gothenburg.

  • Light wedge: Lysekil is a town that has many different swimming spots to offer. One of them is Pinnevik, which has a sandy beach with jetties, playground, kiosk and toilets. Another is Stångehuvud, which has cliffs overlooking the Gullmarsfjord and a nature reserve with rare plants and animals. Lysekil also has a saltwater aquarium with tropical fish and sharks. Lysekil is located in the municipality of Lysekil, approximately 100 km from Gothenburg.
  • Fjällbacka: Fjällbacka is a picturesque fishing village that has several charming bathing spots to visit. One of them is Badholmarna, which consists of a number of islands with sandy beaches, cliffs and jetties. Another is Rågösund, which has a sandy beach with piers, a kiosk and toilets. Fjällbacka is also known for being Camilla Läckberg's hometown and has a museum with her books and objects. Fjällbacka is located in the municipality of Tanum, approximately 150 km from Gothenburg.
  • North Island. King River
