LYSEKIL

Lysekil in Bohuslän. Lysekil is a beautiful coastal town that has a lot to offer for those who want to experience the nature, culture and food in this part of the country. Have visited Lysekil several times and will return again. Below you will find tips that are good to know before your plan to visit Lysekil

Accommodation options

If you want to visit Lysekil, there are several different accommodation options to choose from. For example, you can stay in a hotel, a hostel, a campsite or a B&B. It depends on what you prefer and what your budget allows. I myself have stayed in a hotel, but also on a boat when visiting Lysekil and found that both worked based on the conditions that the different choices provided. The hotels are of course more expensive but have more service and amenities, while it was charming to sleep in the boat and hear the lapping of the waves. I have not visited the campsites myself. But, it is said that the campsites are perfect for those who want to be close to nature and have the freedom to move as they please. In my eyes, B&Bs are almost like small hotels today, more of a cozy option for those who want a personal and homely atmosphere.

Accommodations that are popular are Beach girls' sea hotel, Grand Hotel Lysekil and Hotel Lysekil. Strandflickornas Havshotell is a charming hotel located by the sea and has a lovely spa department. Grand Hotel Lysekil is a historic hotel located by the harbor and has an elegant bar and a large terrace overlooking the water. Hotel Lysekil is a modern hotel located in the city center and has a restaurant, a pub and a night club. A short distance from Lysekil there is a spa hotel called Won spa hotel and conference, which is a top-class hotel with a large spa department. It is secluded and close to the water.

Hiking in the area

One of the best things about Lysekil is that there are so many nice hiking trails in the area. For example, you can walk along the coast and enjoy the view of the sea, cliffs and islands. Or you can hike in the forest and discover different plants, animals and historical sites. A popular hiking trail is the Stångehuvud nature reserve, which is a protected area with unique flora and fauna. Here you can see, among other things, orchids, lichens, birds and seals. Another hiking trail that I recommend is the Pinneviksleden, which runs from Lysekil to Brastad. It is about 10 kilometers long and passes through different landscapes, such as meadows, pastures, forests and villages.

Bathing places

If you like swimming, you will not be disappointed in Lysekil. There are many bathing spots to choose from, both sandy beaches and rock bathing. Some of the most popular bathing spots are Pinneviksbadet, Fiskebäcksbadet, Släviksbadet and Norra Hamnen. Pinneviksbadet is a long sandy beach that is suitable for families with children, as it is shallow and calm water. Fiskebäcksbadet is a smaller sandy beach located near the center and has a playground, a kiosk and a mini golf course. Släviksbadet is a rock bath located in a bay with clear and salty water. Norra Hamnen is a rock pool located by the harbor and has a jetty, a trampoline and a sauna.

Restaurants in the area

When you get hungry after all the swimming and hiking, there are plenty of restaurants in the area that serve delicious dishes. Lysekil is famous for its seafood, so it's something you can't miss when you're here. You can, for example, eat fresh prawn sandwiches, lobster soup, mussels or lobsters at one of the many fish restaurants in town. If you want something other than fish, there are also other options, such as pizza, pasta, hamburgers or Asian food. Some of the restaurants that I think you should visit are The beach girls, The bridge, Gullmarsstrand on the other side of the bay.

Culture & History

Lysekil also has a rich culture and history to explore. For example, you can visit one of the many museums in town, such as Havets Hus, Viktoriahuset or the Maritime Museum. Havets Hus is an aquarium that showcases the marine life in the Gullmarsfjord, which is Sweden's only real fjord. Here you can see various fish, crustaceans, octopuses and other creatures that live in the water. Viktoriahuset is a museum housed in an old bathing establishment from the 19th century. Here you can learn more about the history of the seaside resort and see what it looked like when people came here to bathe and heal themselves. The Maritime Museum is a museum that tells about Lysekil's maritime history and displays various boats, models, photos and objects related to the sea.

Suggestions for excursions

If you want to see more of Bohuslän, you can make some excursions from Lysekil to other places nearby. For example, you can take the boat to Smögen, which is a picturesque fishing village with a famous pier full of shops, cafes and restaurants. Or you can take the car to Fjällbacka, which is a charming coastal town that has been the inspiration for several of Camilla Läckberg's detective stories. If you want more nature, you can go to Kosterhavets national park, which is Sweden's first marine national park. Here you can see a unique seascape with islands, skerries, corals and seagrass meadows.

For example, you can go to Harry's, which is a popular pub and night club with music, drinks and entertainment. Or you can go to the Grand Hotel, which is a historic hotel with an elegant bar and a large terrace overlooking the harbor. If you want something more relaxed, you can go to one of the cozy pubs or cafes in town, such as The Bishops Arms, Café Kungsgatan or Café Vattenkanten.
