Vantaa in the area

You can hike along several trails in Skärhamn and its surroundings, which offer fantastic views of the sea and the cliffs. A popular trail is Tjörn Runt, which is a 14 km loop that goes around the entire island. The trail passes the Nordic Watercolor Museum, Sculpture in Pilane and Morikas Fårgård. Another nice trail is the Sundsbyleden, which is a 7 km long tour that starts at Sundsby Säteri and goes through forests, meadows and cultural landscapes. The trail has several information signs about nature and history along the way.

Swim in the ocean

Bathing is best done at one of the many bathing spots in Skärhamn. One of the most popular is Gråskär's bathing area, which is located by the harbor and has a shallow sandy beach, a beach volleyball court, a jumping tower and a playground. There are also changing rooms, toilets and showers here. If you want a more natural bathing place, you can go to Kyrkesund, which has several rock pools with piers and ladders. Here you can also take the ferry over to Härön, which has even more untouched nature to discover.

Find things to do

There are plenty of tips on what to do in Skärhamn, regardless of whether you are interested in art, culture or adventure. A must for all art lovers is The Nordic Watercolor Museum, which is located on the waterfront and has an impressive collection of watercolors from around the world. The museum also has temporary exhibitions, workshops, lectures and events throughout the year. Another exciting art project is Sculpture in Pilane, which is an outdoor exhibition of sculptures in different materials and styles, which blend into the rugged landscape. Here you can see works by both Swedish and international artists, which change every year. For those who want to get closer to animals and nature, is Morika's Fårgård a nice place to visit. Here you can see sheep, goats, chickens and rabbits, and buy organic products in the farm shop. If you want to experience the sea in a different way, you can take a trip along the sailing ship Lady Ellen, which is a beautiful schooner from 1895. Here you can either just enjoy the view and the wind, or help with the sailing and learn more about the history of the boat.

Restaurants

Restaurants in Skärhamn are many and varied, and offer something for all tastes and budgets. A fine restaurant located at Plane Bed & Breakfast is Plane Tavern, which serves well-prepared food with local ingredients and sea views. Here you can eat everything from fish and shellfish to meat and vegetarian, and finish with a good dessert. Another restaurant with a nice view is Pater Noster Tavern, which is located on the island of Klädesholmen and has a mixed menu with both Swedish and international dishes. Here you can also enjoy seafood if you want, or try one of their specialties such as herring cake or shrimp sandwich. If you fancy something sweeter, you can visit Summer Dream Ice Cream Café, which has a large selection of ice cream, waffles, pancakes and pastries. Here you can also sit out on the terrace and watch the boats in the harbour.

Get to Skärhamn

This is how you get to Skärhamn from different parts of the country. If you go by car, you can take the E6 to Stenungsund, and then follow road 160 towards Tjörn. Skärhamn is approximately 20 km from the bridge to the island. If you go by bus, you can take the TEXP bus from Gothenburg or Uddevalla, which stops at Skärhamn bus station. If you go by train, you can take the train to Uddevalla and then change to the TEXP bus. It is also possible to take a boat to Skärhamn from Gothenburg or Marstrand, but this is usually only during the summer season.
