Hike on Koön

Koön 5

Marstrand is a well-known place in Bohuslän. But, the island before Marstrand, which is Koön, it is perhaps an island that has not stuck in the memory or comes up as the first choice. But, if you give Koön a chance, you might change your image, because Koön has a lot to offer and you don't have to go by ferry.

We often visit the hiking trails on Koön. All three loops are about the same length. 4-5 km long, but slightly different tough to complete.

The black loop

It has usually become the black loop, as it is most to the west and contains a little more height differences. Since it is located far west on Koön and is periodically high above sea level, this means that you can see far out over the sea. Among other things, you can see Paternoster on the horizon. Hätteberget (large lighthouse) is also visible. The trail begins with an easier walk, then turns into a staircase. Once up there, you can see Marstrand's northern inlet. Further over a dam and further out onto the rocks. Here, some height meters are felled. At the top you will come to a built observation tower. There you can look in all directions. Marstrand in the south, Pater Noster in the west and Åstol in the north. Once the tour continues, you will pass a water resource/well. You will see a popular excursion spot for boats on the left as you walk along the trail and have the water source on the right. After more elevation gain, you step into the military's old guard castle, which controlled shipping towards the Hakefjord and further north. The tour ends with a walk in forest nature.

This, black round, is very easy to get to, long enough for one or two hours of activity and you get to see a lot of different vegetation and views. Also, that it can be nice to get away from the pulse for a while if you've been to Marstrand for a few days. But, there is quite a lot of elevation gain to be completed, on the 5 km long loop.

Green loop

The green loop is more walkable. Here, large parts of the route can also be reached with a pram or wheelchair. There are nice rest areas with barbecues. For those who want, you can also spend the night in the wind shelters that are available.

We wanted to try this sleeping over thing, of course, so we packed a pack to spend the night, but also lots of food and drink. We had a fantastic evening as you can see in the pictures. We grilled good food and enjoyed the August evening. Then we crawled into the wind shelter and slept soundly until the next day. Easy to get there, everyone could join and everyone was happy.

The trails are open all year round

The great thing about these hiking trails created on the west coast is that they can also be used in winter.

So, one weekend in January I took my parents for a walk and it went perfectly. We had a good time and it felt safe to take the seniors on the trip even though the ground was a little uneven in a few parts. The tour also passes Marstrands Camping, so if you want to start from there, that's also fine.
