I am so happy to share with you my itinerary for a visit to Smögen with children. Smögen is one of the most beautiful and popular destinations on the west coast, and there are lots of fun and exciting things to do there. Here are my tips for a 3 day trip that will make the whole family happy.

Day 1: Arrival and exploration of Smögen

Day 1 you arrive in Smögen in the morning and check into a cozy hotel located right by the harbor, or a little further into the village. After unpacking your bags, take a walk along the famous Smögenbryggan, which is a long wooden pier full of shops, restaurants, cafes and ice cream stands. Stop at some of them and buy some souvenirs, coffee and ice cream. The kids will love looking at all the different types of seafood sold at the market, and you can try some of the local delicacies such as prawns, crab and lobster.

After lunch you take a boat trip to Hållö, a small island just outside Smögen. There you can see the beautiful lighthouse that was built in 1842, and which is still in operation. Also take a tour of the nature reserve that protects the unique flora and fauna of the island. Look at the many birds, flowers and rocks, and send the kids out on the rocks, which are probably exciting to climb among the big rocks. We hope you are lucky with the weather, but these activities will work even if it rains a little.

In the evening you have dinner at one of the many fish restaurants on Smögenbryggan. Enjoy the fantastic view of the water and the good food. Perhaps order a large seafood platter that includes everything from mussels to oysters. It will be a delight for your taste buds.

Day 2: Adventure and relaxation around Smögen's nature

Be sure to wake up early in the morning, because there is a lot on this day too, full of adventure. Book a guided kayak tour that can take you around Smögen and some of the nearby islands. The guides are often very helpful and teach you what is needed. Imagine gliding on the clear water and seeing the beautiful nature from a different perspective. Maybe you paddle past small fishing villages, sandy beaches, cliffs and caves. Feel free to also stop at a calm bay and jump out of the kayak, but jump into the water and snorkel. Look at all the many fish, starfish, sea urchins and if you're lucky maybe a seal.

After the kayak trip, you go back to the hotel and take a shower and rest a bit. Then it's time to go to a spa nearby (there are several), where you book in for a treatment for the whole family. Then you get massages, facials, manicures and pedicures. Relax and be refreshed after an active day. You will feel like new people afterwards.

In the evening, you grill on the hotel's own communal barbecue area. Buy the groceries at the local grocery store. Now you have the opportunity to talk about today's adventure and relax. Maybe play some game. Then it's bedtime, because tomorrow is another day too.

Day 3: Culture and shopping

The last day in Smögen will be a culture and shopping day. Visit one of the museums that are available. Smögens Hafvsbad is one of them. It is an old bathhouse that was built in 1900, and which is now a cultural center that shows exhibitions about Smögen's history, art and crafts. Learn about how life used to be in Smögen. And how fishing and tourism have affected society. Other things to see are beautiful paintings and sculptures by local artists, and Smögen knitting, which is a special technique for knitting patterned sweaters.

After the museum, it's off back to Smögenbryggan to do a little more shopping. Find gifts for your friends and family, and a few things for yourself. There are many different things to shop. Among other things, handmade jewellery, wooden toys, ceramics and textiles.

Have lunch at a crêperie located in the harbor. For example, order galette, which is a type of thin pancake made from buckwheat flour, and which is filled with various ingredients.

After lunch, it's time to think about leaving Smögen, for this time. Smögen is truly a perfect destination for families who want a mix of nature, culture, food and fun.

Hope that this inspired how 3 days in Smögen can be spent, you who are a family with children and want to experience Smögen.
