Musical experiences in Gothenburg

Gbg concerts

Gothenburg has many music scenes. They are available both outdoors and indoors. My wife and I are not big consumers of concerts and musical performances. But, there have still been some concerts in the last few years.. Except for the years 2020 and 2021 then because COV-19 was ravaging.

What is so fascinating is that there are plenty of musical performances that cost nothing. The ones that are completely free. While other, perhaps slightly more popular artists charge a good penny for their tickets. The mix of choosing both some concerts that you pay for, but also looking for performances that you can experience for free, is what we feel has given us a lot of value per kroner spent.

Of all the artists we experienced during the summer of 2018, we only paid for four of these artists. The rest were offered free of charge at various locations in Gothenburg. Then we still haven't included all the performances that were in restaurants etc. that were visited.

Gothenburg is an event city. Which means that there are fixed music scenes where you always know there are good artists. But, there are also events and temporary scenes that are added. Below are some examples of these scenes that we experienced.

The point is that Gothenburg is good at finding a mix of artists, in different places, that make it worth visiting Gothenburg.

GES playing a concert in Frihamnen

When GES played their concert this summer evening, it was as summer-warm and lovely as it should be.

Erik Gadd warmed up the audience first. Then GES played all their classic songs where everyone sang along.

We had tickets for GES also in 2020, at The Theatre. But since the pandemic stopped everything in society, we had to wait until now in the winter of 2022, to see them, but then at Scandinavium.

Ad Sheeran was on stage at Ullevi

If you want those big concerts, with the very biggest artists, Gothenburg also delivers.

We experienced a concert with Ad Sheeran at Ullevi this summer in 2018. Of course, it was fantastic in many ways. We had recharged beforehand with a good picnic in the Garden Association. From where we then walked to Ullevi stadium. Because that's what's good about Gothenburg, everything is so close that you can quickly get around town, between different happenings.

When talking about Ullevi, many popular artists play there. This summer, among others, Lale, Håkan Helström and Ad Sheeran will return.

The Theater at the Swedish Fair had put on a show with Danny Saucedo

Cool concept to convert an exhibition hall into a music arena. Here you could choose to have dinner before the show, or arrive in time for the show to start.

Since an exhibition hall is very adaptable, the organizer had arranged a nice show where the artist Danny Saucedo changed between several stages in the venue. Very memorable show.

The Great Stage at Liseberg

Liseberg has a solid program with artists, every summer. We regularly visit Liseberg to listen to various guest artists.

What is also fun is coming to Liseberg on Mondays. Then it's "Lotta på Liseberg". Good artists always perform and it's a nice atmosphere.

Sometimes we see the whole show, but sometimes just a moment. Sometimes we have bought seat tickets, while sometimes we have sat down at the restaurant and eaten at the same time. The choices are many, all pleasant in different ways. A tip is to visit dress rehearsal, because then they dance even more.

RONDO plays Mamma Mia

Björn & Benny's production of Mamma Mia The Party is being played now, in 2022 at Rondo. It's a fast-paced show with very good music and some spex.

We visited the show now in March 2022 and were very pleased. It was good food, arranged there, so that you felt like you were sitting in Greece. It's really something that I recommend doing when you're in Gothenburg.

The garden association received Lale

Another place that is nice is the Garden Association. Lale played there a couple of years ago.

This year, Sting is coming to the Garden Association. We have tickets, so it will be fun in June 2022 to watch it. He has had to wait a couple of summers now because the pandemic shut down everything.

This was a little of what we experienced on Gothenburg's stages in recent years. Hope it inspires you to visit Gothenburg and then go to a concert that is being staged.
