Hike on Hamburgö

Färjan över till Hamburgö, frän Hamburgsund.

The ferry over to Hamburgö, from Hamburgsund.

Hamburgö is a fantastic place to hike. It is not the largest island in the area, but it is a popular island, which also shows if you are interested in buying your holiday home there. House prices are relatively high. But, as you know, nature is free, which we take advantage of from time to time.

The first thing you have to do is take the free ferry over to Hamburgö, from Hamburgsund.

Different route choices on Hamburgö

We have chosen slightly different routes to experience this wonderful island, where our main goal is usually to get close to the sea. Below are three road choices, all of which are a pleasant experience, but in different ways. Because the island is not that big, the trips are never day-long, but sometimes that is enough, you want to get out into nature in a simple way. Unfortunately, there are not many pictures, but I have included links to the parking lots to easily find the places.

South out.

When we choose to hike from the southern part of Hamburgö, we park the car at Brick beach, from there it is nice to get out on the rocks and among the boathouses. It's not a huge car park, but not a well-known place either. We walked a bit back and forth here and if we wanted, we could have taken a swim. This part of Hamburgö is nice, but not our top choice.

North out

Another short hike, but easier to get out on the rocks is to drive right after you cross the ferry. Then you drive north out and soon end up at the end of Norgårdsvägen. Park there and continue on foot. Soon you will be out on the rocks. Here you can continue walking along the cliffs to the south, until you reach Sandviksvägen, which you can take back. We have never done it, but chose to turn around and go back the same way. Also chose to take a quick dip.

Out west, towards Hopptorn Boviken

The third option, and actually the one we recommend the most, is the choice when you drive quite a lot out west. Then you drive left after the ferry, but pretty soon you turn right, at a sharp turn. Continue onto Sandviksvägen, then turn off towards Boviksvägen. Finally you end up at Jumping tower Boviken. Here there is a nice parking space and good conditions for swimming. But, there are several hiking trails to choose from, with signs telling you how to go.
